I spent a few days over Christmas with Morris and Judith. We decided to do Striding Edge. It was my first time on this sort of terrain, but I needn't have worried as Morris frequently checked I was OK and ensured my safety throughout.  It was a truly memorable day - great company, stunning views and perfect hospitality at the end of the day.  I've got the bug now.  I'll definitely be returning to experience more delights from the magical place that is the Lake District.

When I first arrived at Morris & Judith’s home I could not believe how beautiful it was.  Everywhere I looked I could see mountains, and the quietness was so welcome. It seemed almost too good to be true, at the price I had paid for bed, breakfast, dinner, and with Morris training on mountain hiking and map reading.  ‘There must be a catch!’, I thought before knocking on the door, but everything was as good as it had seemed online.  Judith and Morris are the most thoughtful and gracious hosts I have ever had the pleasure to stay with.  My mountain training started with a climb towards striding Edge and Helvellyn.  Wow!  What a walk!  I had never been on a mountain like this and it was so exhilarating!  We spent another day consolidating skills and then I went out on my own.  I had a great stay, and would 100% recommend staying here.  I am definitely coming back!

We came over from Canada on our honeymoon to the Lake District and stayed with Morris and Judith, who are great hosts!  We wanted to get a taste of the mountains in the Lakes so Morris led us up Striding Edge, down Swirral Edge, and up Catstycam.  It was great fun!

I spent a day with Morris as it was years since I have done any real navigation.  Having recently moved to the lakes, I wanted to clear away any rust from my mind.  Morris had a simple, practical approach and methodology that I found easily applicable to navigate and filled in the gaps in my knowledge.  He explained how to visualise what the topography of the land would really look like by the contours on the map and navigating by them.  I would really recommend a session with Morris for anyone interested in spending any time in the hills.

I was walking with some friends aiming to do Striding Edge on Helvellyn.  Unfortunately I had the unpleasant experience of losing my confidence completely on the first exposed section of the Edge (see photo), and didn't feel I could continue.  Morris (the local vicar!), happened to arrive at the same time on a personal walk, and offered his assistance, explaining his qualifications and experience.  He gave me the confidence to continue, and ensured that we were safe all the way to the summit, including helping us with a rope he had in his pack, on the bits where we needed more security.  He then guided and escorted us all the way down to the correct path from the mountain to our destination of Grasmere, as it was starting to get dark.  We were hugely grateful for his help, and can thoroughly recommend his guiding skills in the mountains!

Thanks Morris and Judith for a wonderful stay. Great hospitality, lovely meals, spotless house and you’d clearly gone to a lot of bother to ensure everything was COVID-19 safe.  We really enjoyed hiking in the mountains & learning to navigate them under your expert guidance Morris.
All in all, you both couldn’t have looked after us better, it felt like a real home from home and a lovely break, thank you!
