You can only get to us from either the north or the south, so that makes things easy!

Once in Patterdale SATNAVs will take you down a narrow farm track into a dead -end so please ignore them and look for the church on the main road.  We are opposite that.

Click here to go to location in Google Maps.

From the North via Penrith

Leave the M6 at Junction 40 for the A66 to Keswick.  Drive past the Travelodge to the first roundabout (Rheged garage), and take the exit for ULLSWATER.  This is the A592 and you stay on it until you reach our house!  The road winds around a lot, and some drivers are very slow on it, but it is dangerous to overtake!  Lots of accidents happen on this road so be careful!  It can get very wet and slippy too.

Follow A592 about 5 miles until you come to the T-junction at the edge of Ullswater.  Turn right and continue on A592 past Glencoyne beach, and Aira Force.  Take care at the section of road where you can see a cliff on your right, as the bend there is deceptively tight.

Numerous cars have gone over the edge!

Carry on through Glenridding, past the Ullswater Steamer sign, past the hire boats, past Mountain Rescue premises, and past St Patrick's Church on the right.  Turn round the bend to the right, and we are immediately on the left, blue double gates.

Just come in and park on the large drive.  We use the side-door as our main entrance.

From the North via Keswick/Troutbeck

Take the A509 for Troutbeck and follow for about 5 miles, through Matterdale End and Dockray.  Go down the steep hill and past the upper car park for Aira Force on the right.  Keep your mind on driving whilst at the same time, on a good day, having a superb view of Ullswater and the distant mountains as you descend.  Arrive at the T-Junction with the A592 at Aira Force cafe, and turn right.

Continue on A592 past Glencoyne beach, and Aira Force.  Take care at the section of road where you can see cliff on your right, as the bend there is deceptively tight.

From the South via Windermere and Kirkstone Pass

Take the M6 Junction 36 onto the A591 for Kendal.  Keep on the A591 for about 14 miles to Windermere (watch out for the 40mph speed cameras in Ings - they've caught out over 12,000 people!).

Ignore whatever your SATNAV is telling you now, and just keep going through Windermere, past the big church on the left and the various shops, and start to leave out the other side.  You will come to a small roundabout, wihere the 3rd exit (right) looks like a tiny road that goes no-where up a  steep bank.  That's what you need, signposted 'Kirkstone'.  This road will wind its way through various small villages up into the hills, and towards the beautiful Kirkstone Pass.  It can get very foggy up here, as well as snowy, so if you seeing snow on the road, I hate to say this, but it would be better to turn round and go back up the M6 to Penrith, as this road is VERY DANGEROUS in snow or icy conditions.

If it's clear, you are about to have one of the best drives in the Lake District!  You will arrive at the Kirkstone Pass, with the pub on the right and the car park on the left, and then it's down-hill all the way to Patterdale...through Hartsop, Deepdale and finally into Patterdale.

Go past the Youth Hostel, the White Lion pub on your right, and the Patterdale Hotel on your left.  The road straightens out a little here for about 200 metres, and then bends round to the left.  We are just before that bend, opposite the church, double blue gates.  Just drive in and park on the large drive.  We use the side-door as our main entrance.
